January 2009:  Happy Two-Thousand-and-Fine!

No, that’s not a spelling error - it’s our new approach to the year which has been inspired by the extraordinary events in Washington this past week.  Despite the altogether woopity globalstart to 2009, we like to think that we are all ‘on the right side of history’, and perhaps in times like these, we should find solace (a quantum of it perhaps?) in the wonders of nature around us.  With the big rains that have fallen on Zimbabwe and Mozambique in recent weeks, the wilds around us are greener and more prolific than ever.  So much green seems to definitely have a positive affect on the blues… and so it is that we find ourselves at the beginning of a new year full of anticipation and energy. Much of this energy is focused on our most exciting project at the moment, our unique and exclusive Explore Gorongosa walking safari experiences within the re-emerging Gorongosa National Park in central Mozambique.
As some of you know already, we have been very fortunate recently in securing a special operating license to carry out luxury walking safaris and related activities within the park itself. The name we have chosen - Explore Gorongosa - just about sums up the experience… exploring the wild wonders of this special place in the company of one of the region’s finest professional guides. This venture is not only the first of its kind within the park, but it is also a great opportunity to introduce the world to the visionary and really quite extraordinary restoration project underway at Gorongosa. Last year alone the great team running Gorongosa’s conservation project re-introduced, amongst others, a number of elephant bulls from the Kruger Park, a pod of hippo from St Lucia and expanded their herd of buffalo.

In order to ensure our Explore Gorongosa unique safari experiences will truly be like none other, we are putting everything into getting them up and running by May this year.  We are open for bookings and we’d really like to encourage you all to come and join us in Gorongosa and see for yourselves why we think it is such a special place, full of truly exceptional experiences.   We are hoping to let the wildlife and scenery of the park do the talking as we just provide the backdrop in the form of a quirky little semi-permanent tented camp - Explorers - and some light wilderness fly-camps a.k.a. the Gorongosa SkyBeds.   We are able to take eight guests from the beginning of May through to mid-December, and although the seasons and daily schedule might change according to the whims and fancies of each group, the underlying One Africa pride of top service, top guiding and uniquely wild and awesome safari experiences will be ever-present at Explore Gorongosa.  The response to our plans at the recent WTM travel show in London in November was brilliant; the general consensus was that for the current fragile market ours is an appealing approach - providing a unique, fresh, value-for-money, and personal experience.

More information on the experiences and the park is available from Jos (who is currently boosting marketing from Johannesburg), or online.  Our site is up and running - - and there’s more on the park’s visionary restoration project on their official site,  We also have a full ‘media pack’ which we can send through to you on request.  Our launch special is now available, and especially to overlap with regional public holiday on May 1st, there is a special discount offered to residents of Mozambique, as well as one for SADC residents.  Contact Jos - - for more information or to make a booking for these truly awesome experiences in one of Africa’s re-emerging gems: Gorongosa!  (Not to be confused with the smelly cheese of similar title..!)
